About the Inn
Dickens Inn…American History as it's best. Built in the 1860’s at a
cost of $33,000 which include the house and 15,000 acres of Citrus
Groves. The Inn was the “Original Manor House” of a very large Citrus
Plantation.
History tells us that it changed hands in 1913 to new owners, “Black
Hawk” Davis of Barlowe, Kentucky.
In 1950 Lester Cantrell, a Citrus grower purchased the property
because, like others, he wanted the land to grow oranges.
We do have copies of the original deeds and the Inn is listed as a
Historic Building by Brevard Heritage Council.
The Inn boasts the original wood floors both up and down stairs.
We have four rooms on suite, each with their own historic and original
beauty. Some say they have seen Mr. Lester Cantrell moving around the
Inn, we are told he likes the Ladies; tell us if he comes to visit you,
he is very friendly.
We still own the Grove to the west side of the property and we have
citrus trees baring Oranges and Grapefruit which in season we serve as
part of our over sized breakfast.
